Characteristics:

Slender, alert, and active. This snake periscopes while hunting and attains a length of 5 to 6’. Very variable. Bluish to gray to greenish above and cream to bright yellow below. This species usually has 8 upper labial (lip) scales while the eastern yellow bellied racer has only 7. Smooth scales in 17 rows. Oviparous. The hatchlings are dark and have dark saddles and lateral spots.
