Characteristics:

Sender and alert, this subspecies has a ground color of tan or olive-brown. The mid dorsal line is most visible anteriorly and may terminate before reaching the tail. Lateral stripes are better defined and complete. Belly white to pale yellow. Facial striping absent. Instead the ribbon snakes may be distinguished by the vertical yellow preocular spot. Scales are keeled and in 19 rows. This slender, alert, dark colored, 3-lined, snake is often found near water. Ovoviviparous. Neonates similar to adults.

Habitat and Diet:

This slender, alert, dark colored, 3-lined, snake is often found near water. Primarily feeds on amphibians, fish, invertebrates (especially earthworms!) and an occasional small bird.
