Characteristics:
Ground color of this 30-36’ long, very aquatic garter snake varies from olive to gray. Dorsal stripe is often orange (in some areas, yellow) and the lateral stripes are yellowish. All stripes may vary in intensity from distinct to almost absent. Between the dorsal and lateral stripes are 2 rows of dark spots on each side. Belly is off-white to yellowish. Found in or near quiet or slow moving waters. . Ovoviviparous. Neonates are more brightly patterned than the adults. Scales keeled.
