Characteristics:

Hatchlings of this immense, invasive, snake average 20 inches in length. Adults near, or perhaps attain 20 feet. The dorsal ground color is cinnamon to olive dorsally and lighter on the sides. The very extensive and variable dorsal pattern and lateral markings are olive-brown. There is a forward directed arrow-point on the top of the head. This is paralleled on each side by a wide black edged olive bar. There are sensory pits on the tip and sides of the snout. Scales are smooth. Prey items include all suitably sized mammals, birds, and reptiles such as alligators and crocodiles.

 

Unique Features:

sensory labial pits, size and head pattern will identify this snake species.

 

Habitat and Diet:

Florida’s Everglades and perhaps other South Florida regions. Prey items include all suitably sized mammals, birds, and reptiles such as alligators and crocodiles
