Characteristics:
Starting life at 24 inch long hatchling, this invasive species can reach an adult length of about 20 feet. A 17 foot 3 inch long female containing 73 eggs was recently found. The ground color is cinnamon to yellowish dorsally and white on the sides. The dorsal saddles and lateral markings are a rich brown. There is a forward directed arrow-point on the top of the head. This is paralleled on each side by a wide black edged cinnamon bar. There are sensory pits on the tip and sides of the snout. Hatchlings average more than 24 inches in length and an adult female can measure 18 feet or slightly longer. Males are a bit smaller. Scales are smooth. Prey items include all suitably sized mammals, birds, and reptiles such as alligators and crocodiles.
