Characteristics:

Considered a subspecies by some, by others it is thought to be a disjunct population of intergrades between the Eastern and the Florida kingsnakes. Very variable. Some may be blotched while others are patternless. Yet others may lack blotches but have a dark vertebral stripe. Venter light with or without dark markings. It is adult at a length of 4 to 5 feet.. Scales in 23 rows, anal plate single. Dietary items for this snake include ground nesting mammals and bird, amphibians and reptiles. Hatchlings similar to adults. This, like its relatives, is immune to the venom of pit vipers. Oviparous.

Researchers have found that this large kingsnake spends a large amount of time underground in the burrows of rodents.
